Important Dates To Remember
  • May 23rd: Professional Development Day: Half Day

  • May 28th: Memorial Day, No School

What We Are Working On!

Reading: We are working on choosing "just right" books to read during independent reading. The students are also participating in book clubs. The students read the same books as several of their classmates and they share their questions, wonderings, predictions with the group. The students have also been given a notebook and will be writing new vocabulary words down that they come across while reading.

Writing: The students have started working on expository writing. They are learning that to expository writing centers on sharing information with the reader in an interesting way. They will also be starting a poetry unit this month.

Math: In math we are working on topic 11, long division, two-digit multiplication and finding the mean. The students are learning how to divide using the long division algorithm. The students are also working on multiplying two-digit numbers in several different ways. The students are also working on learning new math facts. The more they practice, the easier they will become.

Science/Social Studies: The students are not currently studying new units in science but will continue observing their biobottles that they created in the beginning of the year. The students have been learning about the Southeast. They are currently working on writing a report on a Southeast state of their choice that they will share with the class. We will also be starting our pioneer unit the week of May 1st.

Homework:  Students will continue to have math, spelling, and reading homework daily. Instead of having the students complete the reading log, I will be sending home a reading calendar that will help the students keep track of their reading on a daily basis. The students should be reading for 30 minutes a night. Students should also continue working on learning their math facts.
