We have officially become 100 days smarter in Room 161!
The learning has been exciting, fun, and really fascinating! Lots has been going on in reading, math,
writing, and science!
In reading, we have been working very hard on
fluency, reading with expression, as well as honing our decoding skills. These skills have come in handy as we practice our class play, SNAP! This is an Australian folk tale about a crocodile who swallows several bush creatures and their plan to escape.
We
have also been concentrating quite a bit on deep text-to-self connections. We have learned this helps us understand the characters and story better. We are also working on several comprehension strategies, such as: questioning and inferencing.
Math has been exciting and fun! We have been
practicing double digit addition and subtraction strategies. These are helping us understand the concept behind regrouping. This will come in handy as we move forward and learn the algorithm. We will also be practicing counting and identifying coins and making amounts of money in various ways.
In Social Studies, we have just completed our unit on communities. We have made a digital story on Wixie that features each of our favorite types of communities: rural, urban, and suburban.
