February

First graders love the month of February! Friendship, compassion, kindness, love and valentines are the center of our daily meetings, discussions, and writing center.

Our Social Studies/Science unit this month focuses on the study of 'Shelters' The story of Corduroy is our core curriculum piece of literature in reading . This story offers the perfect opportunity to teach the children how to make connections to the meaning of friendship and compassion.

Math has been exciting for everyone, as we learn to work with tens and ones. The concept of ten more, ten less, one more or one less is a daily learning activity that we do together, while using the interactive 100's chart on the Smart Board. The visual presentation offers every child a positive math experience.

We will be celebrating the 100th day of school on Tuesday, February 9th. The children look forward to the many fun writing and math activities we have planned for this happy day in first grade.
