Welcome Spring!
Reader's Workshop
We are reading our core novel, Ramona Quimby, Age 8. Students are using the text to make connections, write summaries and explore author's purpose.
Math
Students completed a unit on money. We worked on the difficult skill of making change. Currently we are working on multiplication strategies and the concept of division.
Students should be practicing their multiplication tables nightly.
Writing
The students have been introduced to the three types of writing: Personal Experience Narrative, Character, Problem /Solution Narrative and Exposititory. Through literature, the students have become familiar with these different genres. We will continue to learn how to add elaborative details to our writing using the five senses. Also, students have learned how to hook a reader by learning the strategies of composing an entertaining beginning and an extended ending.
The students completed writing autobiographies. In addition, we are busy editing and revising our pieces for Superscribes and Scribblers.
Grammar
During our grammar instruction the students are learning about the 3 different types of sentences and applying proofreading marks. Our focus will also include identifying homophones, common/proper nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, fragments and run-on sentences. Recently, we focused on chronological order. We continue to practice our editing and revising skills each day.
Science
The class conducted an experiment to test which type of paper was most absorbant. They also had the opportunity to design their own experiments using paper towels. Students enjoyed exploring the scientific method!
Thank you for your ongoing support!
